U3Si2ElasticityTensor
Computes the Young's modulus and Poisson's ratio for U3Si2 as a function of porosity.
Description
The U3Si2ElasticityTensor material model determines the Young's modulus and Poisson's ratio of USi fuel using a correlation derived from the data provided in the USi handbook (White, 2018).
The Young's modulus is a porosity dependent function given by: where is the Young's modulus (GPa) and is the porosity (%). The shear modulus is also a porosity dependent function given by: where is the shear modulus (GPa) and is the porosity (%). The two preceding equations were obtained by linearly fitting to the experimental data provided in Figure 15 of White (2018). Once and are known the Poisson's ratio can be calculated from:
The porosity in percent is calculated from the current density through: where and are the current and theoretical densities of USi respectively. The theoretical density is taken as 12200 kg/m.
